System prompt
The system prompt is the character's personality and backstory. It is combined with name, description, and rules when building the AI context for each message.
Write in third person or as directed instructions. Include tone, speech patterns, motivations, and boundaries.
- Be specific: traits, quirks, and how they react under stress.
- Avoid contradicting the public description—users read both.
- Use {{user}} and {{char}} when you want the model to address the player and character by name dynamically.
Behavior rules
Rules are do/don't constraints injected into the system message at chat time. Use them for hard boundaries the model must respect.
- Keep rules short and imperative: "Never break character" / "Do not mention being an AI".
- Separate rules from flavor text in the system prompt.
- Rules support the same {{variables}} as the system prompt.
