What makes a great character
A strong character has a clear identity (name, description, cover image), a distinct personality in the system prompt, optional behavior rules, and conversation hooks such as example dialogues and opening messages.
Use the create form sections in order: Identity → Personality → Conversation → Publish. You can save as private first and iterate before going public.
Recommended workflow
- Start with a name and short description users will see on Discover.
- Upload or generate a portrait cover image (3:4 aspect ratio on cards).
- Write the system prompt as the character's core personality and backstory.
- Add behavior rules for do/don't constraints the AI must follow.
- Optional: few-shot example dialogues and opening messages for stronger first impressions.
- Set visibility and tags, then publish when ready.
Template variables
You can use {{tokens}} in description, system prompt, rules, example dialogues, and opening messages. Values are filled from your character and the user's active persona at chat time—not when you save the form.
See the Variables reference page for the complete list and field matrix.
